A la Carte Services
If you need help with individual pieces of a search, you can select from the following menu. If you need three or more services the mini-search may be a better value.
Development of a Position Profile
Before you can make a great hire, you've got to know what you want in a candidate. We'll help you find out. Cost includes:
- Meeting with organizational leaders and asking questions that reveal a clear sense of the valued characteristics and skills for the position.
- Writing the position profile in a clear and compelling manner, editing as organizational leadership sees fit.
Advertising
Attracting qualified candidates has much to do with how your job vacancy is written and where you choose to advertise. We can increase your return of responses from talented candidates by helping you to advertise effectively. Cost includes:
- Researching and recommending publications in which to advertise for the greatest return of quality applicants.
- Writing the ad and placing it. (Note: Price does not include fees for placing ads in venues beyond NonprofitOyster.com's website. Those fees would be determined by individual venues and would be passed along to you at cost.)
Screening
Overwhelmed by the resumes you've received? Let us lift some burden from you. We've screened thousands of resumes and know just what to look for – we'll narrow your group down to the best handful of candidates you should seriously consider. Cost includes:
- Receiving, acknowledging and sorting through resumes received by the organization to determine highest quality applicants and making recommendations about whom to interview.
Reference Checking
For busy nonprofits, reference checks can often be rushed, or worse – ignored. Basing a hiring decision solely on an interview can leave your organization open to making a bad hire. Not good! Thoroughly checking references is essential to make sure you hire the best person for the job based on all the tools you have available, including past performance. We can help. Cost includes:
- Developing tailored and appropriate reference questions for the position.
- Checking up to 4 references per candidate.
Developing Interview Questions
Most of what you'll learn during your interviews will be based on the questions you ask. Ask the wrong questions and you'll omit much of the information you need to make the best hiring decision. We can help you get to the core of what you need to know so that your interviews work for you.
- Based on information learned from writing the position profile, we would develop interview questions that uncover the valued characteristics and skills of the candidates.
Attending Interviews, Search Committee Meetings and General Consultation

(Outside of the RTP area in North Carolina , we'd work with the search committee and stakeholders via teleconference. Or, if you prefer face-to-face, we can arrange to work with our consultant partners across the U.S. to facilitate a seamless process for success.) Cost includes:
- Facilitating search committee meetings, providing input on candidates and protocol.
- Keeping a written record of interviews and advising on candidate knowledge, experience and fit with the organization.
Extending Offer on behalf of the organization
You're excited about the person you've chosen. And now comes the critical moment: the offer. It can be awkward to negotiate with someone you'll be working with soon. Let us handle this tricky transaction for you. Cost includes:
- Negotiating with candidate within parameters defined by the organization.
- Writing letter of agreement and ensuring that all parties sign the letter.
Coaching the new-hire
Make sure your new-hire is supported and happy in the new position. Most glitches in employee and employer relationships happen in the first few months of employment. We can help smooth the rough spots to make the transition of your new team member go much more smoothly. Cost includes:
- Working with the new-hire and the organization to resolve unmatched expectations (outside of the RTP area in North Carolina , we'd work with the new-hire via teleconference).
- Encouragement and practical advice for the new hire in the first three months of employment. (Two 45 minute sessions per month)
