Laura Gemme - Senior Consultant

Laura Gemme has worked in nonprofits for more than 15 years, covering a spectrum of areas including fund development, operations, human resources, marketing and event management. For more than 8 years, she held various executive level positions at the Alliance for Nonprofit Management, a DC-based national nonprofit association whose members are devoted to increasing the management capacity of nonprofits. She spent the remaining 7 years in administrative positions and consulting roles for a number of various nonprofits.
In 2001, Laura founded NonprofitOyster.com, the nonprofit sector career site that matches jobseekers with nonprofit employment opportunities. Laura's main interest is in helping nonprofits to be effective in order to better serve their mission. She firmly believes that people are the force behind every nonprofit across the country, and having the right people in the right positions is essential for success. Helping nonprofits find quality candidates is her mission; having worn most hats in a nonprofit setting, she tends to know just what's needed.
Through her work at the Alliance for Nonprofit Management, her network is nationwide and she has a keen understanding of the infrastructure of the entire sector, how the various types of organizations interrelate, and where skills may transfer seamlessly to a new position in a different setting. With this knowledge, she knows where to tap in to find the "passive" talent who may be just waiting for that next golden opportunity.
Laura has volunteered for a number of nonprofits over the years, and currently volunteers for the Parent Education Leadership Initiative and The Montessori School, both in Winston Salem. She is a supporter of jazz, visual and performing arts, and is a contemporary figurative painter in her spare time. She loves reading, cooking, singing, drawing and painting.
