THE ORGANIZATION

For more than 100 years, Family Services has been providing a wide variety of programs to help build strong families in healthy communities. We work collaboratively with government, education, other nonprofit organizations and citizens to solve our community’s complex social problems. We provide professional services and participate in partnerships that foster the development of children, advance the safety, security and success of families and individuals, and help build a sustainable community.

Family Services works to help children, families and individuals make positive, lasting changes in their lives; strengthen families; build a healthier, more stable community; and build a better future for all of us. Our programs address four primary areas:

  • Child Development: Helping children from low-income families prepare for success with school readiness, emotional and physical health, and nutrition services.
  • Counseling: Addressing Anxiety, Depression, Grief, Relationship Issues. Helping children, adolescents and adults, and individuals, couples and families discover their own strengths to make better decisions.
  • Family Violence: Helping victims become survivors and thrivers by creating a safety plan and providing a safe place and support services. Developing trauma-focused services for children and adults.
  • Sexual Assault: Providing both immediate and longer-term services to sexual assault victims and their families, to help them take critical steps toward recovery.

THE CANDIDATE

The President & CEO role of Family Services requires a compassionate leader, committed advocate, and innovative problem solver. A professional with a collaborative focus and strong experience working with a Board of Directors, the President & CEO will represent the organization’s collective voice in the community, serving as an encouraging partner, identifying and leveraging opportunities, and leading advocacy efforts.

The President & CEO will act with integrity and convey passion for the mission throughout their work. As a key individual in the organization, the President & CEO will sustain and enhance the work and embrace the values of Family Services.

THE POSITION

The President & CEO works with the Board of Directors to identify the strategic direction of the agency and develop appropriate goals and objectives to ensure organizational excellence. The President & CEO is responsible for providing leadership to the senior management team and the agency. The President & CEO is responsible for the quality and growth of the agency’s programs and services, as well as the operational and fiscal integrity of the agency, consistent with the agency’s mission. The President & CEO functions as the agency representative to funders, civic leaders and groups, and other agencies and community partners.

Responsibilities:

Board Management and Development
  • Oversees the recruitment, development, and support of a strong and engaged Board of Directors (“Board”).
  • Communicates effectively with the Board by providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board’s fiduciary and oversight responsibilities.
  • Works with the Board and its committees, serves as a liaison between the Board and staff, and guides Board development.
  • Collaborates with the Board and management team to develop and implement strategic plans.
Leadership, Administration and Management
  • Achieves the agency’s vision, mission, and strategic goals through the development and implementation of operational plans that are both visionary and strategic.
  • Promotes collaborative leadership and governance to drive the success of a diverse, inclusive and vibrant culture.
  • Leads the senior management team in the planning, implementation, and management of all aspects of Family Services, including finance and administration, human resources, fundraising, marketing and communications, quality and outcomes management, business development and strategic initiatives, and all programs.
  • Seeks new opportunities for service growth in the public and private sectors and develop plans and budgets for new programs/businesses.
Program and Division Management
  • Exercises overall responsibility for ensuring the senior management team’s management of all programs and divisions, inclusive of appropriate staffing, regulatory compliance, and meeting budgeted goals.
  • Monitors current programs, ensuring quality and the achievement of program goals, using data-driven evaluation and measurement of results as a tool for continuous improvement in all programs, services and organizational operations.
Human Resources Management
  • Develops a competent, productive staff by supervising, directly and through delegation, all staff, including responsibility to recruit, evaluate, assign, and coach for success; assures the provision of professional development opportunities; works to develop and maintain a sense of camaraderie and morale among staff.
  • Ensures the smooth operation of the agency by formulating and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
Community Relations and Advocacy
  • Promotes a positive image of the agency by ensuring an understanding of agency services and accomplishments in the community.
  • Works to strengthen partnerships and foster new ones, engages elected officials and civic leaders, funders, advocacy groups, and community-based organizations to collaborate strategically in order to improve and enhance agency programs and/or impact factors that affect the health and wellbeing of communities, families, children and individuals consistent with the agency’s Guiding Principles for Advocacy.
  • Represents the agency in the community through membership and participation in local, state, regional and national organizations that influence and enhance the policies and programs of the agency.
  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with funding bodies, both public and private, and assures compliance with their requirements.
Philanthropy/Sustainability
  • Provides oversight of development activities; provides leadership to develop and achieve fundraising goals; cultivates and solicits major individual donors in collaboration with the Vice President of Philanthropy and Public Relations.
  • Continuously expands the financial resources of the organization to ensure sustainability and growth.
  • Serves as the President of the Family Services Foundation.
Legal/Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintains familiarity, knowledge and compliance with all legal, contractual, certification, and accreditation requirements and assures standards are met.
  • Ensures compliance leadership is competent, effective, and current.

Qualifications:

Experience

Prior senior leadership experience. Strong preference given for individuals with prior human services experience and experience working with a Board of Directors.
